Certainly not as popular as the Washington Dips were, the Whips were actually the American version of Aberdeen FC from Scotland and the original Washington DC based NASL tea,. They featured in the inaugural NASL season, but eventually made way for other teams like the Diplomats, who wouldn't join the NASL until the 1974 season.
